Everyone is feeling dark right now.
The only time I experienced similar feelings of endless angst was in high school. Back then, I'd sneak into the bathroom and cry. I didn't even know what I was crying about, but the tears wouldn't stop. After ten minutes, I would clean myself up and return to my class.
A part of me thought everyone did this from time to time.
Looking back, I realize it was an accumulation of unresolved emotions busting the dam. I could've used a few more tools to work through all that was pent up inside my buzzing adolescent mind.
Right now, we live in a time of remarkable complexity, which even the most stable minds are struggling to understand.
It seems extraordinary at first that intense breathing can bring up so many waves of emotion. Still, if you think about it, it makes perfect sense. As you flood the body with breath, you destabilize the bonds holding old feelings in place and open the gates to release potentially vast amounts of stuck energy. It is almost the perfect anecdote.
"The place of true healing is a fierce place. It's a giant place. It's a place of monstrous beauty and endless dark and glimmering light. And you have to work really, really, really hard to get there, but you can do it." Cheryl Strayed
