I am patting myself on the back for being so deep in the dirt these days.
You know, mulch, sheep manure, triple mix. Digging through rotting leaves and getting messy in the dirt for fun. This is why I like it: there is very little responsibility there. You just dig deep down and let nature take the growth somewhere you have not been before. Nature asks us to trust the process of decay, and death as much as the season of change and fruition.
(I am not an avid gardener, I am talking about planting annuals in decorative pots, but hey, it's a start!)
You slow down, look around, and… trust that we can decompose and welcome new at the same time. Working with nature allows you to hold many truths.
Flashback to 2016: At first, decomposing my life was humiliating and embarrassing. I didn't have the knowledge, wisdom, community or support to trust on the other side of the psychological mess of a lifetime of unresolved grief would be a life as beautiful as it is today.
And that year, I stopped to lose myself and became...mulch. The environment I needed to grow.
We live in a world that does not compost well. Our world loves to generate and produce more and more stuff and make tons of garbage - literally and metaphorically. Not only that, we like other people to handle our garbage for us. We make a mess, and we want others to take it away. We often try to offload our growth to coaches, doctors, institutions, or practices instead of using our shortcomings to transform, as a chance to lose ourselves and... compost.
Forging out our old junk and garbage into the new season of growing and fruiting. Nature asks us to trust the process. You have to be very brave and very committed to compost well.
Digging into your dirt is an essential conversation about the magic within us: the compost, mulch, mycelium network and how it can connect you all in positive and muddy ways. Connection heals.
Always love,
