As someone who has been a part of my community for some time now, I want to share a deeply personal aspect of my experience with breathwork. It may seem strange that I am talking non-stop about breathwork, and tbh I am a little surprised myself.
You may have joined our community during the exciting wave of interest in microdosing at a time when breathwork was on the periphery of your radar. However, breathwork has been a profound practice for me since long before it gained widespread attention.
My journey with breathwork began in 2001, quite unexpectedly, when I pulled a tab off a poster in my local health food store. Little did I know that this seemingly simple act would lead me down a path of self-discovery and personal growth that continues to shape my life.
Under the guidance of a very old-school teacher, I embarked on a rigorous breathwork practice. The teachings were strict, and the cult-like dynamic resembled the high-control environment I had experienced in my upbringing with so many made-up rules!!! As an eager-to-please student, I threw myself straight into the very particular rules and puritanical technique, constantly hoping to achieve perfection and solve all my problems.
For 17 years, I followed the same rigid method, with the music playing unchanged every single time. Eventually, my teacher deemed me ready to "do it on my own." While it felt like being pushed out of the nest, looking back, it became clear that I had outgrown the limitations of this approach.
Moving on, I have sought teachings from various other wonderful mentors, including the practice of holotropic breathwork. In 2019, with permission from my original mentor, I launched my own breathwork practice—a decision that marked a beautiful evolution in my desire to help others - (this was also the birth of DJ K OH playlists, and everyone is grateful for the vibrant energy they bring to our sessions!!)
I've witnessed firsthand how breathwork offers many benefits, from fostering self-awareness and inner peace to promoting emotional balance and resilience. It's a versatile tool that holds the potential to deepen our connection with ourselves and the world around us.
As I continue to walk this path, I'm deeply grateful for the opportunity to introduce others to the beautiful multiplicity of breathwork.
